Warm Winter Wishes

I have a Christmas card for you today, now don't laugh, I know Christmas is 329 days away. But the girlies at Fab 'n' Funky have had a stroke of genius this year to help us mere mortals get on top of our Christmas card list in a less hurried manor, by making one of the Fab 'n' Funky Challenges a Christmas challenge each month. Clever don't you think? So although I'm not due to start on the team until next week, I thought I'd join in with the Fab team for this weeks challenge and kick off my Christmas card making for this year.

I've used a really pretty Delicious Doodles stamp that I've made up into a card with my lovely Australian friends in mind. We spent a gorgeous Winter Christmas/New Year with them in Scotland a few years ago. It was utterly enchanting as all of Scotland sparkled like a jewel with a hoarfrost the likes of which I'd never seen before and very likely will never see again in my lifetime. So this stunning Delicious Doodles image, reminded me so much of that time and of our lovely pals. This will be their Christmas card this year.

I used a linen textured card base and stamped the background swirls in Memento Summer Sky ink using a Magnolia large swirl stamp. I added the Carte Postale using a lovely Inkido stamp I bought from one of my favourite online stores - Live and Love Crafts. The white poinsettia I layered up from loose poinsettia elements available at Wild Orchid Crafts. I glittered the base petals and the top to give it just enough sparkle. I used my brand new Signature Die from Joanna Sheen for the Ivy Corner, cut from a paper that had a pretty sheen to it (no pun intended!) The snowflake is a Helz Cuppleditch wooden ornament, which I painted with an Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber in Pearl and then sprinkled with Glitter Magic. I wanted to soften the background before putting the 'postcard' on, so I added a little white muslin behind the image. I finished the embellishments with a tiny blue grosgrain bow which I stitched some little Christmas bells to.

I used the same white paper with the pretty sheen that I used for the Ivy to line the inside of the card and stamped the sentiment using a lovely Amy R Stamp from CC Designs called Scripted Greetings. I used Ranger Distress ink in Faded Jeans to stamp the sentiment both inside the card and the Carte Postale on the front.

The wonderful Delicious Doodles image comes in black and white, so I gave it a little tweak to make it blue added liberal amounts of Stickles Star Dust, carefully inked the boat and castle in Flexmarkers to add a little warmth to those and cut the image with deckle edged scissors to give an old fashioned 'postcard' effect. I hope you like what I did with this lovely image and if you've ever had a go at doing something similar yourself let me know so I can come have a looksy.

For those of you who have never seen a hoarfrost, I've included a few pics from our travels of this stunning phenomenon. Thanks for popping in today. Do pop on over to the Fab 'n' Funky Challenge blog to check out what my talented teamies have been up to and to join in the current 'Christmas' challenge. Hugs, Wends x

Boys & Their Toys and Some Happy News!

I have a gorgeous card to share with you today using a super cute Elisabeth Bell image. I found this image some time back on Elisabeth Bell's digital stamps site and utterly loved it. It's called 'Toot Toot'. Elisabeth has a way of capturing the innocence and beauty of childhood that I find so enchanting.

My dearest childhood friend and I have kiddos only a few weeks apart in age, so they'll both be turning 4 this year. My how the time just flies!!! I made this card up for my Godson's upcoming birthday.

At present the Elphine House girls are having a 'lots of layers' challenge. This certainly won't be the frilly lacy multiple mats card I might have otherwise made and you can see plenty of in the DT cards, but I thought with my multi-layered stars and layered up image on the shaped red mat, I might just get away with entering this challenge. Hopefully they'll like what they see.

This image was so gorgeous to colour, the check scarf, denim pants and hat and the train coloured up just as one my little girl Georgie had at that age. I kept the colouring very clean and simple, no shadows or background. I wanted a simple finish and to allow the papers and other embellishments to feature too. The image and mat was edged in distress ink. But otherwise a very honest and simple creation, allowing that sweet image to take the stage. A wide black grosgrain ribbon behind the red mat which was shaped using an older Sizzix die sets the stage. The paper is from a fabulous 'boys' set from Bobunny's Blast Off collection. Finishing with a corner die from Whimsy and the smaller one from my Quickutz die set. Finally the sweet sentiment is a Lili of the Valley, which I thought was perfect for this cute image.

Nikki's Fairy

I have a treat for you today. A gorgeous image by the one and only Sylvia Zet. An enchanting fairy, seemingly enchanted herself by something in her eyeline. I just love Sylvia Zet's wistful images. She has a real talent and her images are beyond delish to colour. You can find this gorgeous fairy image called Mountain Lily as a rubber stamp from Whimsy Stamps

I love using really close colours in my images. I often will use subtly varying shades of the same colour. I don't know why particularly. I just really love the effect. This is what I've done with this image. Shades of soft khaki and olive greens paired with very gentle pinks. I had a bit of a play with differing colours in her hair too, which didn't work 100%, but I quite liked it anyway, so didn't colour over the lighter areas. I used a metallic Promarker on the little bell and added Stickles here and there for a bit of sparkle.

10065678805_fc9d5795a9_h

The gorgeous main paper is from First Edition Papers beautiful paper pack called Isabelle and the accent paper is from My Mind's Eye Wild Asparagus range called Cherish, which is sadly out of print now. The third paper I used to mat the image and other papers was one I had in my stash from a Scrapbook Magazine paper freebie. I just love the way they all work together in this card.

DSC_6103

I created the bloom from loose petals I had in my stash, which I layered up and then fixed with a glittered brad. I wanted to add a bit of depth of colour to the flower, so rather than keep the layers all the same colour, I inked the darker petals with one of my Promarker pens in a deeper shade of pink. They really are so handy for tricks like this. Love those pens! I layered a lovely diecut leafy swirl behind for a bit of interest which I also used my Promarkers to colour. It was cut from white cardstock and then I inked the swirl in a light khaki shade to work in with the colours in the paper. Finally I added two heart shaped pins to the bloom for a bit of gentle bling.

10065655615_4da1f84245_h

When I was first putting this card together, I had sat it on the table with just the image, trying to figure out how to finish it. Then my hubby walked into the room, took one look at it and said, she needs something to look at. Hey presto, the butterflies were born and their flightpath set. I coloured the white pearlescent paper I cut the butterflies from with my pink Promarker to work in with the pink hues in the paper which worked really well. I had some tiny pink pearls which worked perfectly with them and then added some cream ones to depict their flight path. Simple, but perfect to give the wee enchanted fairy, her 'something' to look at.

Here's a final shot with the card stood up. The light was a bit harsher but it shows up the pretty pinks well and the lovely decorative corner which is from Whimsy Stamps Corner Die Set. That's all from me today me lovelies. Thanks for stopping in on my blog, see you all again really soon I hope. I have some happy news to share, but until then, keep living your dreams. Hugs, Wends x

Looking back on 2013...

Hard to believe we are almost half way through January and I've not done my first post of the New Year yet! I've been all consumed by our house shift. It's been all a bit of a drama! Being given notice a week or so before Christmas really does tend to put one's tail in a spin. But we have not only managed to find a nice new home in record time, we've completed the move, handed over the keys for the old place and we've managed to stay in our old neighbourhood too, which was rather important to us, so as not to throw another big change in the mix for Georgie.

Georgie really likes her new school and has settled really well there after our shift from the UK earlier in 2013, so I really wanted to stay local if possible. So we're now looking forward to the next chapter in 2014 of our New Zealand journey. I've had no time to craft these past few weeks, but last night my hubby helped me make up my new craft desk, so I now have a little spot to work from and hope is rising that I might actually get a few crafty minutes in this week! For now, I wanted to wish you all a wonderful New Year and a 2014 filled with great love, great joy, great fun and lots of fabulous crafty adventures! I thought I'd start my New Year in crafting, by looking back over some of my favourite makes of 2013. I note that many of my crafty pals have been doing Top 5's and Top 10's, but as there are 12 months in the year, my year in review, will have a Top 12. Thanks for indulging me and I hope you'll come back soon to see what I get up to 2014!

Christmas Joy and New Year Wishes

Well, it's been a while, I have been so tied up with our house move. Lousy timing right in the middle of Christmas, but it has all worked out for the best. We've found a bigger house very near where we were living, so Georgie can remain at the same school and I can carry on at the local Playcentre with Zachy. So once we've unpacked and settled in, it will be great.

I've a really quick post today, with a card I made for my best Scandinavian pal as a thank you for all her generous pressies for us all. She has a way with choosing, that results in 'THE' perfect pressie for each of us! So sad we weren't spending New Year with them this year. My night last night, really didn't compare to our New Year in Sjöbo! My hubby got to party with friends, but I was sat at home with two poorly kiddos, sleeping through the New Year like a Nanna! LOL.

Wow, surreal moment! As I'm sitting here writing this post, who should Skype me as the eve of their final 2013 day reaches it's zenith, but my darling Scandinavian pal! So special to share in that. Miss them even more right at this moment. So close, and yet so far away!

Right onto my card. I made this card using a gorgeous stamp from Vilda Stamps, which I bought from one of my favourite online stores - Live & Love Crafts. It so made me think of my Swedish pal when I saw this, as she's the reason I have an obsession with Tomten's now! She totally made my Christmas by sending me a very gorgeous little Tomten, which when I saw it, I realised how 'in tune' we are, as I'd just finished making her 'thank you' card when I opened her pressie.

11373454175_ba225da388_k

I so loved this Vilda Stamps image when I saw it and knew I'd want to use it to make a card for my lovely Swedish pal. So it'll be winging it's way to her very soon with a big long letter. Just have to find time to write it between unpacking the boxes! So better get this blogged quickly and get on with it.

11373186744_e1a5d24a25_k

Here's the arty shot of the card, showing nicely the pretty monotone ribbon I used and white cotton lace. I stamped the snowflakes in grey ink using Panduro hobby snowflakes and dotted 'Stardust' Stickles glitter glue on the centre of the snowflakes to create that sparkly stardust effect. The image was coloured in greys using my fabulous Promarkers. So looking forward to further improving my skills with those this year. Really loving using this medium on my cards. A really fun discovery for me this past 18 months. So glad I managed to buy a decent set before leaving the UK, as they're REALLY expensive over here!

11675923424_8d9fe51893_o

Here's a close-up of the lovely image. I just loved the sweet moment, rubbing noses! Here in New Zealand, we call this a 'Hongi' and it's a greating of great affection. So I thought this was the perfect pic to share our thanks and love with our Scandinavian pals.

Well that's all I've got for you right now. Might pop back later to add some more details. But I want to catch the Live and Love Crafts Challenge before it closes. So it just remains for me to say, I wish you all a happy, prosperous, healthy and creative New Year! Cheers to a fabulous 2014 for us all. Hugs, Wends xxxx
